Cross Country

The Westminster Schools of Augusta Cross Country program has once again made school history, capping off an extraordinary season with record-breaking performances from both the varsity and middle school teams.

Lucas Johnson, a standout Westminster runner since he laced up at age three, committed fully to the sport in fifth grade after trying basketball and football. On Aug. 16, he won the Skyhawk Invitational in 15:42, capping a senior season that has him aiming to run in college—ideally at the University of Oregon, with Appalachian State also in view as he considers majors in finance or sports management.

The Westminster varsity cross country teams, under the leadership of Coach Johnson, achieved another phenomenal season. At the GIAA 2AAA region meet, both the boys’ and girls’ teams took home the region titles. This marked the fifth consecutive title for the boys, while the girls captured back-to-back championships and claimed their fourth title in the last five years! Special congratulations to individual region champions Eric Robinson and Emma Jordan, along with the seven boys and five girls who earned all-region honors. Coach Johnson was named Coach of the Year for both teams, recognizing his dedication and impact on Westminster's cross country success.

The Westminster varsity cross country teams are blazing trails this season, with both the boys' and girls' squads making headlines for their performances and resilience. Competing in some of the toughest races in the state, the teams have shown remarkable grit, setting records and earning top spots in major competitions.

The Westminster Wildcats Middle School cross country teams are having a strong season, with the girls’ team winning three meets so far. Leading the charge is 8th grader Kate Tracy, who has been pulling double duty by running in both middle school and varsity races. At the Jekyll Island Invitational, Tracy was the top middle school runner, finishing with an impressive time of 13:30.

The Westminster Middle School Cross Country teams delivered a stellar performance at the AAMSL Championship, bringing home a historic victory! This year marks the first time in Westminster history that both the boys and girls teams have captured the championship title in the same season.
