Westminster Senior Brooks Johnson to Run Cross Country/Track for Berry College
Westminster Schools of Augusta is proud to announce that senior Brooks Johnson signed a letter of intent to run cross country and track at the collegiate level for Berry College on Tuesday, May 2, 2023.
A senior year team captain, Brooks played a key role in Westminster?s GISA Cross Country Championships in 2020 and 2021. He was named Cross Country All-Region in 2020, 2021 and 2022, and was region runner-up in the 800M and 3200M in the 2023 spring track season. He was also a key part of the 4x800 relay team that set a new school record in 2023. At the GIAA State Championship meet last week, Brooks set PRs of 10:24 in the 3200M and 2:10 in the 800M finishing third and seventh, respectively.
?Brooks has really come a long way over the past year both as a runner and a leader,? said Westminster Track Coach, Aaron Johnson. ?His 2.5 minute improvement in the 5K led to a runner-up finish at the region cross country meet, and through the spring track season he has been listed on MileSplit as one of Georgia?s most improved distance runners. While we will miss his leadership next season, I am excited to see what he will do at the college level.?
?Brooks has been a leader in our cross country and track programs for the last seven years. Since middle school, he has been integral in building our programs into a state champion and perennial state title contenders. Brooks also plays a key role in our community as an avid fan at football and basketball games, leading the crowd in cheers and supporting his peers,? said Dr. Shawn Brower, Westminster?s head of school. ?I have no doubt Brooks will be successful at the next level and will be the first of many Westminster runners to join the college ranks in the coming years.??
