This was an incredible week for our track athletes!

Athletics News: Track | Westminster

The middle school track team opened the season at Augusta Prep on Thursday. While this was the first ever track meet for many on the team, and the newcomers ran well, the afternoon belonged to the veterans. Eighth grader, Ethan Dawkins, set PRs in the 100M and 200M. Seventh graders, Emma Jordan and Kaylee Charles Finch, continue to set the new standard for middle school distance runners finishing the 1600M in an amazing 5:55 and becoming the first Westminster middle school girls to ever break 6 minutes at that distance. They followed that with a 2:47 (Emma) and 2:48 (Kaylee Charles) 800M run followed closely by Kate Tracy (2:53).

After a rainout at Greenbrier last week, the varsity track team was back in action at Augusta Prep’s annual Friday Night Lights meet against six other schools. Despite facing 20mph winds throughout the meet, the team set 18 PRs and broke 3 school records! New PRs included Israel Ayettey (100M, 200M, Long Jump), Jack Hobbs (Discus – 94’3” new school record), Ronald Henley (High Jump), Brooks Johnson (3200M), Lucas Johnson (3200M), Kaven Johnson (100M), Patrick Joiner (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles), Levi Ketterman (High Jump – 5’10” new school record, Triple Jump – 38’4” new school record), James King (1600M), Ava Martino (Discus), Blake Peacock (3200M), Ben Scott (Discus), William Westmoreland (800M), and Garrett Witten (Shot Put).

This week, the Wildcats compete in the Shark Invitational in Bluffton, SC on Saturday, March 11.
