Track Update Week 1 - Greenbrier
Our track runners are off to an amazing start!
The varsity track team opened the 2023 season on February 16 at a 7 team meet hosted by Greenbrier. With several team members still playing basketball, this was a “soft” open for the team with no one competing in more than 2 events. Though it was the first meet of the season, we had 6 PRs and expect to see many more as the season progresses. In the field events, Jack Hobbs set a new PR in the shot put, with a throw of 33’ 1.5”. The distance runners have been training all winter and showed they were ready to race, opening the meet with a 2nd place finish in the 4x800M relay. Israel Ayettey opened his season with a PR in the 100M finishing in 11.66 seconds. There were 4 PRs in the 1600M led by Brooks Johnson’s 4:52 and followed closely by his younger brother, Lucas’ 4:55. James King dropped his previous PR by 13 seconds, finishing in 5:04. Blake Peacock also ran his fastest ever 1600M finishing in 6:15. The team will pick up a few more members this week as basketball wraps up and will have another “soft” opening at Greenbrier on Friday, February 24. The first full meet will be on March 3 at Augusta Prep.
