It was another record-breaking week...

Athletics News: Cross Country | Westminster

This week, the varsity Wildcats made the first of what will be several trips down the fall line freeway into middle Georgia to Sandersville for the Brentwood Invitational, a midweek meet featuring 15 private and smaller public schools. The Wildcats are very familiar with this course and always run well here. Both teams won this meet last year in the middle of a downpour. This course was also the site of the region meet the past two years and both teams claimed region championships here in 2020 and 2021.

In the girls race, freshman Kassidy Watson was the only Wildcat competing, but finished with a season best time and a top 25 finish. On paper, the boys were easily the strongest team at the meet and, with another large meet scheduled for Saturday morning, chose to rest one of their top 5 runners. The boys dominated the meet from start to finish claiming 5 of the top 6 spots. Adam Lippe was the overall winner, followed by Christian Vitacco (2nd), Brooks Johnson (3rd), Patrick Joiner (5th) and James King (6th). Five of the nine runners set PRs and the average finish time of 17:52 was a new Wildcat record.

The Braves Invitational, scheduled for Saturday, was postponed to Tuesday, October 4, so the varsity teams will have two meets next week, travelling to Milledgeville on Tuesday and running at Fox Creek on Saturday, October 8. The middle school teams will join the varsity in Milledgeville on Tuesday and run at EDS on Friday.
