Way to go, Wildcats!

Athletics News: Cross Country | Westminster

The Wildcats left Augusta before dawn on Saturday for the first of three regular season meets in South Carolina. The SkyHawk Invitational in Columbia is one of the largest early season meets in SC and this year featured 26 schools and over 600 runners.

The varsity boys were running without their two seniors this week but rose to the challenge, placing 2 in the top 5 led by Junior, Adam Lippe (3rd) and Freshman, Lucas Johnson (5th). The performance of the week belonged to James King, who, after setting a PR at last week’s meet, cut another 45 seconds off his PR this week finishing in 19:24 and helping the team secure a top 5 finish in a strong field.

Freshman, Lauren Hobbs made her cross country debut this week and ran well. Fellow Freshman, Kassidy Watson, suffered an ankle injury and was unable to finish. Fortunately, with an open week next week, she will have 2 weeks to recover and should be ready to race at the Jekyll Invitational on Labor Day weekend.

The middle school teams were racing at Skyhawk for the first time. The girls remain undefeated placing 4 in the top 6 and 6 in the top 12. This girls team will win a lot of meets between now and the state championships in mid-October. The boys had everyone running this week. They were led by Caleb Lambert (2nd) and Charlie Campbell (5th). The middle school performance of the week goes to 5th grader, Philip Westmoreland. Philip was running in his first meet and finished just 15 seconds behind his older brother, Mitchell. If you know Philip, you know that he is probably still telling Mitchell about it.
