Way to go, Wildcats!

Athletics News: Track | Westminster

The middle school team opened their season on Thursday, March 3 at Augusta Prep. For a very young team there were some great performances, highlighted by a trio of 5th and 6th girls (Kaylee Charles Finch, Emma Jordan, and Kate Tracy) who carried their success in the cross country season over to the track finishing 2 (Finch), 3 (Jordan), 4 (Tracy) in the 1600M and 3 (Tracy), 5 (Jordan), 6 (Finch) in the 800M. Next week the middle school team will compete at Brentwood in Sandersville.

The varsity team was under the lights at Augusta Prep on Friday, March 4. The race that was hyped all week was the Boys’ 1600M which featured 3 of state’s top milers and a field of future stars and the race did not disappoint. The top 3, which included our own Adam Lippe, ran shoulder to shoulder for 3.5 of four laps until Adam Lippe and Augusta Prep’s Hayes Trapp broke away from the Augusta Eagles’ Warren Shepherd and made it a two way race for finish line. Trapp finished just 1.5 seconds ahead of Lippe whose 4:32.10 was a new Westminster record, breaking the previous record set by Evan Downs in 2014. This time places Adam among the top 5 sophomores in GA (across all classes, public and private). In addition to Adam’s school record, two more school records fell this week with Levi Ketterman (High Jump) and Hannah Eaddy (Long Jump) bettering records they already held. The race of the week goes to James King who, after setting a 1600M PR of 5:31 last week, cut an incredible 15 seconds off that PR finishing in 5:16 this week. In all, there were 20 PRs set this week including Israel Ayettey (100M), Brooks Johnson and William Westmoreland (800M), Lucas Johnson, Christian Vitacco, Eli Scott, King, and Lippe (1600M), Scott (3200M), Jack Hobbs, Garrett Witten and Westmoreland (Discus), Kaven Johnson, Hobbs, Witten, and Westmoreland (Shot Put), Jacob Hanna (Triple Jump), Ketterman (High Jump), and Eaddy (Long Jump). The varsity will travel to Bluffton, SC next week to compete in the Shark Invitational.
