Our Wildcats are gearing up for their post-season races!

Athletics News: Cross Country | Westminster

The Varsity teams took a brief overnight trip into middle Georgia on October 8-9 for the GISA state preview meet. About a dozen schools with small teams had registered, so it was not a large meet and the Wildcats went into the weekend expecting to win. The main reason for making the trip was to have the opportunity to run on the course where the state meet will be held in four weeks. This was the site of last year’s state meet, so most had run the course before, but for a few newcomers, this would be their first time seeing it. Claire Peacock and Abigail Knight were the only two girls who made the trip to Macon. They were hoping to break their current PRs and finish the 5K in under 22 minutes. But, with all the rain from the past week, the grass course was wet and soft, not a day for trying to set PRs. The girls ran well, finishing 2nd and 3rd overall and ahead of some top girls they will see at the state meet next month. The boys did what they were expected to do with Seniors, Brad Joiner (1st) and Eli Scott (2nd), Sophomore, Adam Lippe (3rd), and 8th grader, Lucas Johnson (4th), claiming the top four places. A total of 7 Wildcats would finish in the top 13 and the team would win by 35 points. The teams are hoping for dryer faster conditions when they see this course again next month.

The middle school meet scheduled for Friday was rained out.

The next varsity meet is the Kent Kramer Classic in Athens on Thursday, October 14. This meet will include about 25 teams from northeast Georgia, most will be new teams for the Wildcats. The middle school travels to Cochran next Saturday for the middle school state championship where they will find over 150 teams including over 1100 boys and nearly 1000 girls. Should be a great week.
