Our Wildcats made a statement in Columbia, SC!

The Varsity Wildcats left Augusta early Saturday morning for a trip across the border to make their first appearance at the SkyHawk Invitational in Columbia. This meet offers an early glimpse of the teams that will be contenders for state titles across South Carolina’s public and private classifications and is one of the largest of the season, with 25 schools and nearly 600 runners at the starting line.
The boys’ squad had several top runners back this week after running shorthanded last week and it showed on the course as they finished ahead of their rivals from Augusta – Greenbrier, Augusta Prep and Augusta Eagles. The boys were led by Senior, Brad Joiner, and Sophomore, Adam Lippe, with 8th grader, Lucas Johnson, claiming the third spot on the team in his first varsity race. Six boys set PRs and the average team time was faster than in last year’s state finals. With a 5th place finish at this meet, the boys definitely sent a message that their number one preseason ranking is one that they intend to keep.
The girls were shorthanded this week but were able to pull up 8th grader, Kassidy Watson, to fill a roster spot and run in her first varsity race. Led by Senior, Claire Peacock, the girls took advantage of a fast course, posting times comparable to last year’s midseason meets. Though they finished in the middle of the pack at this meet, they are well positioned as we move out of the early season meets and into the heart of the season.
The middle school teams were open this week but will race again next Friday at Episcopal Day School.
