Cross Country Update - Week 5

9/22/2020
It was another highly successful week for our Cross Country teams!

This week, the varsity teams followed the Fall Line to middle Georgia (Sandersville) to take on 11 schools in the Brentwood Invitational. With the outer bands of Hurricane Sally pushing through the area, it was a soggy course, but the cooler temperatures were a welcome change. The girls led off and quickly showed that they came to win. Wildcats are typically loners, but on this day they travelled in a pack with our top 8 crossing the finish line within seconds of each other and claiming 8 of 10 spots between 4th and 13th. The girls won in dominant fashion with the second place team nearly 50 points behind. The team was led by junior Claire Peacock (4th) with Abigail Knight (5th) just 0.1 seconds behind. The rest of the Wildcat pack included Hannah Case (6th), Alli Roseman (8th), Emerson Eubank (9th), Rachel Goodell (11th), Julia Andrews (12th), and Libby Carter (13th). Five girls set PRs and all 10 ran season best times.
Energized by the girls’ win, the boys set out to duplicate their efforts with several Wildcats claiming positions near the front of the race. The boys were again led by Adam Lippe who tracked down an opponent in the final 10 meters to finish third with a blistering 17:32, a new PR. Three more Wildcats would finish in the top 20 – Brad Joiner (8th), Jacob Hanna (12th), and Eli Scott (18th). The boys finished third in a race where the top 3 teams were separated by only 3 points. Four boys set PRs and 6 ran season best times.
With both teams eyeing region and state titles, this meet set the tone for those title runs. The teams now have two weeks to prepare for the back half of the season which begins with an October 3rd meet at Fox Creek.
The middle school meet, scheduled for the EDS – Flowing Wells Campus on September 18, was cancelled due to flooding on the course. They will, hopefully, be back in action next Friday, September 25, on that same course.
