On Friday, August 14, Westminster held its annual Opening Convocation. The senior class gathered in an outdoor classroom space on campus to watch the program in-person, while the rest of the school tuned in virtually via google meet. The program included worship led by Lower School music teacher Miss Van Duzer, opening remarks by Head of School Mr. Case, and the Upper School Student Leadership Team (SLT) revealing the school-wide theme for this 2020-21 school year, "Walk Humbly," based on verse Philippians 2:3B-5.

This year's theme personally challenges all Westminster students, faculty and staff to walk in humility daily. SLT member, Sydney Roseman said, "In a culture that so often promotes self worship, we thought that it was important to challenge the student body to humility. We hope to glorify God through our lives by following the examples that Jesus provided us of humility throughout His life on earth."

Every year our Student Leadership Team has the opportunity to spend a week of their summer in the Colorado mountains where they bond as a team, learn more about what it means to be a leader and plan the theme verse. When asked the motivation behind the theme, current Senior, Sam Williamson said, "This year the SLT team wanted a theme that encouraged humility in our interactions between the students and encouraged humility as we approached the throne of God. In the end we settled on Philippians 2:3B-5 which adopted the phrase 'walk humbly' from Micah 6:8."

The banner, designed by SLT members and revealed at Opening Convocation, will proudly hang in the Knox Hall cafeteria all year as a reminder of this challenge.
