Wildcat Swimmers Excel at First Meet
What a great start to the season!
Four Westminster swim teams attended an early season meet on Friday, November 8 hosted by Walton Waves in Madison, GA. While not every team was at full strength, every team performed very well.
The Varsity Girls came away with a team win including a first place showing in both Relay races and all 7 individual events. The Varsity Boys were a little short handed with only three swimmers making the trip, but they managed a gutsy third place overall finish without entering every event or either relay. Combined the Varsity swimmers placed first among nine participating teams.
The Junior Varsity Girls also produced a strong showing without a full complement of swimmers. With three swimmers on the blocks, the JV Girls claimed two firsts and four second place finishes and scored 134 points, finishing fourth overall. The Junior Varsity boys traveled in force for the first meet. They claimed wins in both Relay races and all 6 individual events. The boys put up an astounding 605 points to bring first place back to Augusta. The JV Boys and Girls also combined for first place out of 9 teams.
A nod to the parents -- there were many, they were supportive, they were patient and kind, and they volunteered to help the meet organizers. Thank you parents!
A mention of fun and camaraderie -- It was very nice to see so many smiling faces before, during and after the meet. It is great to be able to travel and compete together and share this pursuit with teammates, friends and family. I have even been told of a swimming rap, overheard just after warmups.
This weekend, WSA had 20 swimmers who swam 60 events in total. The vast majority of those attempts resulted in State Meet qualifying times. This was the first meet. There is plenty of work still to do; we will achieve more State qualifying times. Congratulations to all those that made it. Keep up the good work for those that can still get there; this was a great start. The hard work at practice really shows during the meets.
