Progress is being made on the WSA Boys Cross Country team. On Saturday, September 8 the Wildcats raced at rival Augusta Prep’s Invitational. Some of the young athletes were facing their first 5k while others were eager to beat their time from August. Then, just five days later on September 12, the team traveled to Sandersville, GA to race the Brentwood School Invitational.

Through these hot and humid meets the boys made significant progress rewriting their personal and seasonal bests times with changes ranging from a few hard-fought seconds to several minutes.

Cooper Keuroglian (21:42-Brentwood) is currently the leader of a tight Wildcat Pack with Thomas Paulk (22:23-Prep), Conner Lutz (22:29-Brentwood), Will Puckett (22:42-Brentwood) and Eli Scott (22:43-Prep) on his heels. Henry Waller (23:01-Prep) and Brad Joiner (23:03-Prep) also shaved of significant time to round out the top 7.

Frank Yu (23:24-Prep) pushed himself to hang on to the top group through both races and Robert Voegtlen (26:27-Brentwood) discovered some sprint speed for the finish to run a third PR for the season. Jackson Barinowski (26:41-Prep), John Reid Hitchcock (32:33-Brentwood) and Dez O’Quinn (35:52-Prep) each ran several minutes faster than they had run previously and are eager to continue to push themselves to even more progress by the end of the season.

The Top-7 Wildcats will compete on September 22 at the Aubrae Gunderson Invitational in Conyers, GA. The whole team is back in action on October 3 at Riverview Park in North Augusta, SC.
