On a beautiful Thursday afternoon on Wildwood Park's hilly looped course, the Wildcat Ladies Cross Country team opened their 2018 season in spectacular fashion!

From the gun the Wildcats were out to run smarter and faster than last year, and by the finish every runner ran either a personal best or significantly faster than last year at this time. Of the returners, none had run under 30 minutes on this course, and this year, the top 5 all crushed that barrier.
The Wildcats were led by senior Caroline Campbell who completed the challenging 5,000 Meter course in 25:46, 23 seconds faster than her previous personal record which was run on a much less challenging course last year.
Second place for the Wildcats was fellow senior Meaghan Rich running 27:37, three minutes faster than this meet last year. Rounding out the top 5 were Lauren Eaddy (29:17), Sarah Margaret Farr (29:34), and Claire Peacock (29:47).
Kiki Zhou was the sixth Wildcat across the line in 30:18 followed by Caroline Weaver and Mary Rushton Massey, each dropping 5 minutes 30 seconds off their times from last year to finish in 30:45 and 31:01 respectively.
“I could not be more proud of these girls” said Varsity Cross Country Coach Janelle Branch, “They work hard everyday in practice, and are starting to see results. I look forward to great things from each of them over the rest of the season.”
The Wildcats will compete next on September 8 at the Augusta Prep Invitational.
