MEALS: Saturday lunch (pizza, etc.) will be provided at the cost of $5.00 per person. Please be sure to order in advance on the tournament registration form.
COSTS:
School Registration Fee - $35.00 per school
Debate Team Fees - $30.00 per team
Debate Judge Fees - $75.00 / hired judge (1 judge / 2 teams)
Lunch - $ 5.00 per person
JUDGING REQUIREMENT: Each school must provide one qualified judge for every two debate teams (or fraction thereof). If a judge cannot be provided, the tournament will provide judges at the cost of $75.00 each.
REGISTRATION DEADLINE: If the registration form is received by Friday, November 2nd the school entry fee will be waived. Otherwise, all entries should be mailed or faxed to Craig Johnson no later than Monday, November 5th.
POLICY DEBATE INFORMATION
DEBATE FORMAT: The tournament will employ an 8-3-5 format with 10 minutes of preparation time. The first round will be paired randomly, and the remaining rounds will be paired so as to offer a final championship round between the top two teams in each division (Novice and Open). Each team must be prepared to debate both sides of the following resolution.
RESOLVED: The United States federal government should substantially increase
its public health assistance to Sub-Saharan Africa.
DIVISIONS AND AWARDS: There will be two divisions (Novice and Open) unless turnout warrants only one Open division. Awards will be given to the top four teams. Speaker awards will be given to the top five debaters in each division. A "novice team" is defined as one in which both debaters meet at least one of the following criteria: 1) first year debater, 2) competed in five or fewer high school tournaments, 3) enrolled below the 9th grade.

7:30-8:00 am - Registration
8:00-8:15 am - Assembly in Cafeteria
8:30 am - Round 1 (random pairing)
10:30 am - Round 2 (random pairing)
12:00 pm - Lunch
1:00 pm - Round 3 (power matched)
3:00 pm - Round 4 (power matched)
5:30 pm - Awards Ceremony
6:00 pm - Championship Rounds (Novice and Open)
DIRECTIONS TO WESTMINSTER: Take I-20 to the Wheeler Road Exit (#195). Turn east on Wheeler Road (a right turn from the exit ramp if you were traveling east on I-20, a left turn from the exit ramp if you were traveling west on I-20 from South Carolina). Proceed on Wheeler through several traffic lights - you will come to a four way stop at Aumond Road (in a residential section). Continue on Wheeler until you see a sign for Westminster School on the left (at the bottom of a hill). Proceed through the left gates to the old campus.
