WESTMINSTER PREFECT SYSTEM

Statement of Purpose : Prefects are seniors who possess a high degree of commitment to the school’s values and ideals. They are capable of overseeing the work in their particular areas and managing the underclassman involved therein. The emphasis of their jobs is service, not privilege. All should be involved in chapel, whether planning or (especially) setting up, and each should have his or her own committee, involving students from all grades.

Prefect Positions :

Head Prefect : Head Prefect is responsible for the overall management of the entire system. He/she must be willing and able to perform the duties and responsibilities of all those who report to him/her, as well as various duties unique to this position. The Head Prefect is also responsible for managing and shaping student perception about the rules and regulations that apply to daily life, and educating students about the importance of the Honor Code in their decision making processes. This includes establishing and maintaining a sense of pride in the care, upkeep, and cleanliness of the campus buildings and grounds. While the Head Prefect is not in charge of Campus Pride, he/she should be mindful of it.

Chapel Prefect : Responsible for the perpetuation of spiritual awareness and Christian fellowship within the school community. The greatest responsibility is planning weekly Chapel services in conjunction with the Chapel Committee (i.e. finding speakers and planning the music).

Admissions Prefect : This prefect meets with parents and prospective students to give tours of the campus, helps organize Open House, follows up with new students through the first semester of school, and communicates with students second semester who are indecisive about re-enrollment. He/she also advocates Westminster and helps keep the campus clean out of school pride, in conjunction with Head Prefect.

Academic Prefect : Responsible for establishing and maintaining a sense of the value of academics within our school. The primary duties of this position will be to establish a student tutoring service.

Service Prefect : This leader is responsible for developing and maintaining a willingness to serve amongst the student body. Daily activities include promoting community service, organizing the high school community service days, announcing individual or small group service opportunities, and planning smaller activities.

Student Life Prefect : The Student Life Prefect is responsible for morale, school spirit, enthusiasm and shaping student perception about what it means to be a student at Westminster Schools. Daily duties include scheduling and coordinating pep rallies, spirit dress days and other events that affect morale.

Publicity Prefect : The Publicity Prefect communicates school events and student achievements through the Wildcat Tales, bulletin boards, school sign, announcements in chapel, and through the Westminster website. Contacts are made with local newspapers, also. If desired, this prefect can organize a prep school newspaper.

Unity Prefect : This position is mostly focused on providing a ministry to the younger grades in which all high school student could interact with middle school and elementary school students. Daily activities would include planning different events with the lower school such as Rally Day (a day where the seniors take younger students to the lake), a movie night, and a sports night in the gym with the elementary school students. The Unity Prefect will also be responsible for providing opportunities for high school students to come to the elementary school during the day and read books to the children.
