Food for the Hungry

“We have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all surpassing power is from God and not from us.” 2 Corinthians 4:7

This past year, Westminster partnered with Food for the Hungry, a Christian organization which combines material needs with missionary evangelism.   Beginning with the First grade, each class has adopted a child from a third world country and that same child will stay with that class through the 12 th grade.   Each grade’s students who participate are responsible for supporting their Food for the Hungry child with prayer, communication, and money.  There are many opportunities to write letters and exchange photos.   The greatest opportunities lie in teaching our children about the needs of other children around the world and the importance of giving instead of receiving!

Food for the Hungry was founded in 1971 and helps some of the world’s most disadvantaged people in 37 countries through child development programs, clean water and agriculture projects, nutrition and health programs, education, and emergency relief.

Each student who makes the commitment to support a Food for the Hungry child will contribute $1.00 a month for 12 months.   The Day School participants will pay monthly (unless otherwise requested), while the Middle and Prep School students will pay for the year in advance ($12.00).

Further information about this wonderful program will be sent home with your child in the first weeks of school.   It is our hope that all students of Westminster will participate in sponsoring their grade’s child so that they may create a bond with and reach out to these children from around the world!
