WSASports Academy

Training - Improving - Competing - Winning

Academy Players Train . . . To develop as an athlete in any sport, a player must learn the proper skills and techniques needed to be successful.

How are skils learned? Through proper instruction and supervised application.

In the WSA Sports Academy, each player will be taught proper technique and given personal feedback in their performance of basic and advanced skills. Using repetitive drills, as well as creative and fun technical training, players will learn to proper skill for each sport. A skills sheet that explains how to master each level of training will be utilized to simplify and objectify the process.

cademy Players Improve . . .
Most sports programs focus on team results and miss the most important element of youth sports and development - individual improvement.

In the WSA Sports Academy, each player wil be regularely evaluated and given personal feedback on their progress and needs for improvement. There is virtually no program in the area that provides this type of commitment to individual personal development.

Academy Teams Compete . . . Weekly scrimmages will be held within the Academy structure to put into practice what players are learning

Local games will be held with other competitive clubs to test skills in a competitive setting.

Seasonal tournaments will be scheduled through the U.S. Club Soccer Association and the USAAA Baseball Federation.

Part of the fun in playing at this age is competing with friends and learning to be a teammate. The Academy provides a great context to see these goals come to fruition.

Academy Players Win . . . Winning is often the only measure of success for an individual or a program. Scoreboard success can be helpful and deceptive.

The WSA Sports Academy, as a program of Westminster Schools of Augusta, is committed to teaching participants what a true winner looks like. A Christian athlete is not less committed to winning, but his definition of winning is measured by character, by being a quality teammate, and by the motivation he draws from to compete, not simply from the results of the game.

The Academy will emphasize the importance of applying Christian priniciples to performance. This impacts how players perceive outcomes of games, their own performance, and their respect for the game, officials and opponents.

The WSA Academy offers a unique environment for growing young men and women of Christian character in addition to outstanding performance
