KINDERGARTEN READINESS REQUIREMENTS

We want everyone who joins our student body to be ready for the rich and challenging academic experience we offer. In Kindergarten this means being able to follow directions and to learn comfortably in a group setting. Our Kindergartners move from whole group to small group activities quickly, show an ability to focus during story times and lessons and show respect for one another and their teachers. Kindergarteners begin the school year able to write their names, recognize numbers up to 20, and know the capital and lower case letters of the alphabet and identify colors, shapes, position words (up, down, over, beside, etc.), and show appropriate fine and gross motor development. To help recognize whether a child is ready for our Kindergarten, we administer the Gesell Development Inventory, a brief assessment of school readiness. To be admitted to our Kindergarten, each child must demonstrate a development age of 5 to 51/2.
