Westminster Day School requires that all rising second through fifth
grade students read during the summer months. While this is not
new, we are organizing the Summer Reading Program a bit differently this
summer. We are including a list of books for your child to choose from.
The list includes a variety of authors, book types and reading levels.
Rising second and fifth grade students have a required book as well as a
list of book suggestions to choose from. Rising third and fourth
graders do not have a specific required book but are asked to choose
books from the list of book suggestions enclosed. The book
suggestion list is also to be used for second and fifth grades in
addition to their required books.
All students in third, fourth, and fifth grades reading three books
(required book included for fifth grade) from the enclosed list will be
eligible for a certificate of participation. Those reading more
than three will be eligible for a gold star certificate. Students
in second grade must read eight books (required books included) for a
certificate of participation and more than eight (required books
included) for a gold star certificate.
Please record the books your child has read on the reading log enclosed
and return it on the first day you return to school in August. We hope
that you will join us in this important effort and assist your child in
becoming a Summer Reader Achiever!
